Minister Dr. Rumiana Jeleva was elected as Vice President of the EPP10 December 2009
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Rumiana Jeleva was elected Vice President of the European People’s Party today during the EPP Congress in Bonn, Germany.
Dr. Jeleva became one of the ten EPP Vice Presidents, together with two other EU Commissioners designate: Mr. Michel Barnier and Mr. Antonio Taiani.
“I accept my election as a high recognition for the work of GERB on the international scene in the past four years, for the Bulgarian government headed by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, and as a great recognition for Bulgaria,” Rumiana Jeleva said after her election. She added that she intends to fight and to prove that Bulgaria can indeed do more than it has demonstrated so far. Dr. Jeleva expressed her conviction that her election would contribute to attaining the two goals outlined by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov before the EPP Congress: restoring the EU financing for Bulgaria and the country’s accession to the Eurozone.
